- INTERESTS
As a general rule, I work at the interface between ecology and evolution. I am broadly interested in understanding how intraspecific phenotypic variation and the spatial structure of interacting species affect their ecology and their evolution, as well as how ecological and evolutionary processes in turn affect both phenotypic variation and the spatial structure of populations embedded in food webs under new climates. This broad idea can be broken down into the following research interests.
My approach to these questions involves a mixture of analytical tools, computer simulated models, empirical data and lab experiments. Although I am not currently doing field work myself, I do enjoy going to the field whenever possible to replenish my bag of ecological questions or to help out other people tackling their own.
- How individual variation affects consumer-resource dynamics, eco-evolutionary dynamics and the stability of food webs.
- How consumer-resource dynamics, eco-evolutionary dynamics and the structure of food webs can in turn affect phenotypic variation among interacting species.
- How the spatial structure of populations affects the structure and stability of food webs and how phenotypic variation mediates these effects.
- How environmental factors, such as temperature, mediate ecological interactions, and how changes in such factors under new climates might impact trait distributions, ecological interactions and species persistence within food webs.
